Everton are set to travel to Villa Park in the coming week, and although Remi Garde’s side are near the bottom of the table Martinez has warned against complacency.
The Spanish boss feels that Villa are fast starters in matches, and that they have been unfortunate on occasions this term.
“The way they [Aston Villa] start games, they are really strong and fully focused but the goals [they concede] probably have a bigger effect than it does on other teams.
“They have been unfortunate in many situations.”
Martinez’s words are not exactly backed up by the stats about Villa this season, as they have been fairly dire in the opening parts of matches.
Villa have scored just one goal in the first 30 minutes of games this season, but they have conceded on 13 occasions in this time period.
The Claret and Blues’ failure to put themselves in front regularly has caused them to struggle badly.
Garde’s men have won just three Premier League matches all seasons, and they are currently eight points back from safety with time running out.
Villa look destined to be playing Championship football next term and Everton will be hoping to inflict further misery on them later this week.
