David Gold gives his opinion of West Ham winger Michail Antonio's goal celebration on Twitter

West Ham United's winger Michail Antonio's celebration was a tribute to Homer Simpson.

Joint chairman David Gold has joked that Michail Antonio’s celebration of his goal during West Ham United’s match against Sunderland was ‘energy consuming’ on Twitter.

Antonio scored the Hammers’ only goal of the match, as they beat Sunderland 1-0 at Upton Park.

The winger struck a crisp finish in the 30th minute to fire the Hammers into the lead, but his celebration raised more than a few eyebrows.

Antonio started spinning around on the floor in homage to Homer Simpson after watching the television programme earlier in the week.

It is fair to say the reaction to the celebration has been mixed, and Gold gave his opinion on it when asked on social media this morning.

Antonio’s goal was his fourth in 15 Premier League matches to date, and the 25-year-old seems to be going from strength to strength.

After initially finding it hard to break into Slaven Bilic’s line-up after joining from Nottingham Forest last summer, Antonio has now fully established his place in the side and he is looking like a brilliant addition.

The Hammers’ win over Sunderland has lifted them up to fifth in the Premier League table and left the Black Cats in further relegation trouble.
