West Ham United to buy British in the summer, says Slaven Bilic

The Hammers have been linked with a number of European stars already.

West Ham United will try to buy more British players in the summer transfer window, manager Slaven Bilic has told London 24.

The Hammers are currently flying high in the Premier League; with a place in the top six looking extremely likely come the end of the season.

They are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, having spent big last summer to secure the likes of Dimitri Payet, Angelo Ogbonna and Pedro Obiang among others.

And Bilic has revealed that his side are being offered a better a class of player by agents at present, but they will still try to buy British stars in the summer transfer window.

“Being where we are has changed the sort of players we are being offered a little bit, but it is mostly calls from the agents,” he told London 24.

“We can’t get the same players as the big clubs, We are working on it, but we aren’t going to buy a lot of players – first of all we are going to try and keep most of our players.

“Also our priority is to get as many English or at least British players in as we can which is extremely hard but we got Michail Antonio and Sam Byram and we will try to do that again.”

It may be a wise move from Bilic not to spend big and bring in a whole plethora of big stars in the summer.

He has worked hard to build a strong team spirit at Upton Park this season, something that was evident when a number of injuries decimated his squad.

Bringing in a number of stars could upset that fine balance and he may be wiser focusing on improving one or two areas with big names, as they did last season.
