Sheffield Wednesday drew 0-0 with Hull City.
The talented playmaker has been a real success for Wednesday this season, scoring a number of goals and causing mayhem for opposition defenders due to his tricky, direct style of play.
However, possessing plenty of South American flair and endeavour, Forestieri has become the subject of debatable refereeing decisions since his move to England and he was at the centre of a huge call in last night’s 0-0 draw with Hull City.
With the game locked in a stalemate and ticking past the 90-minute mark, the former Watford man burst forward into Hull territory and was chopped down by Michael Dawson in an inviting position.
The travelling Wednesday faithful were probably dreaming of a late winner via what should have been a free-kick to the visitors, yet they were left confused when the referee brandished a second yellow for the attacker for an alleged dive.
Dawson, the guilty Hull defender, even apologised for what was a pretty crude tackle, and replays showed that the former Tottenham Hotspur man clearly stopped Forestieri in his tracks.
The full-time whistle should have been greeted with delight for Owls boss Carlos Carvalhal, yet he was in contrast incensed at what was an unjustifiable decision which causes unnecessary aggravation.
The decision can’t be overturned, therefore Forestieri will miss the encounter with Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United and quite possibly the ensuing trip to promotion rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.
Commenting on the incident via Twitter after the game, Wednesday supporters weren’t best pleased.
How the Ref can see that as a 2nd yellow and send off Forestieri is crazy. Now lose him for 2 games and unable to appeal! Disgusting! #swfc— Tom Sunter (@tsunter) February 27, 2016
Just got home from Hull and watched Sly Sports. I just can't believe Forestieri's red card. Even Dawson & Bruce can't believe it! #SWFC— Rick Rodgers™ (@rgrodgers) February 27, 2016
Still furious with the referee, no Forestieri for 2 games now #swfc— Nile (@Beyond_S6) February 27, 2016
Really do feel sorry for Forestieri tonight. What does he have to do for refs to give s foul against him #SWFC— Elliot Crossland (@CrosslandElliot) February 27, 2016
Decent point. Can't believe going to next two games and not see Forestieri #swfc— Paul Sewell (@PaulGSewell) February 26, 2016
Shocking decision from ref with sending Forestieri off. Ok didn't impact on the game but impacts on our next matches! #swfc— Sharpey (@THEsharpey) February 26, 2016
