Sam Allardyce and Ian Wright make similar predictions about Spurs' Europa League fortunes

Sam Allardyce and Ian Wright are tipping Tottenham to win the Europa League.

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce and pundit Ian Wright have told BT Sport that they think Tottenham will win the Europa League this season.

Spurs, who came through a group consisting of Anderlecht, Monaco and Qarabag, coasted past Italian side Fiorentina on Thursday night to reach the last 16 of the competition.

A 3-0 win on Thursday took Spurs through 4-1 on aggregate, and Friday's draw pitted them against German giants Borussia Dortmund in a mouthwatering encounter.

Many will feel that the winner of the Tottenham v Dortmund clash will go on to win the competition, though Liverpool or Manchester United - who also meet each other in the next round - may have something to say about that.

Now though, it seems that managers and pundits really do believe that Tottenham, who are currently challenging for the Premier League title ahead of Sunday's league clash with Swansea City, are one of the major favourites to win the Europa League for the first time in its current format.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce told BT Sport that he thinks Spurs can go all the way this season, and thinks the European experience this young Tottenham side have picked up in recent years will help them see off Dortmund and go even further.

Meanwhile, pundit and former Arsenal striker Ian Wright also told BT Sport that he's backing Spurs to claim the Europa League title, certainly ahead of Liverpool or Manchester United.

"I can see Spurs going all the way though," said Allardyce. "I think that Pochettino said that he feels his squad is good enough for getting in the Champions League, but I can see them getting to this final now, and I think that they're going to go for it now. He didn't rest many players [against Fiorentina], and they won comfortably, and I think that this time, they've had the experience over the last few years of playing in Europe as well, so I think that will stand the lads in good stead," he added.

"I still fancy Tottenham [to win the Europa League], if they get past Dortmund," admitted Wright. "I still fancy Tottenham over Liverpool and Manchester United, if I had to pick. I think Tottenham are in better shape than both of those teams," he added.
