Ryan Mason hails the impact of his Tottenham Hotspur team-mate Eric Dier

The midfielder is happy for the performances of his midfield rival for club and country.

Tottenham Hotspur are certainly blessed in plenty of positions but perhaps most of all it is the heart of midfield where they are most impressive.

The likes of Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli, Tom Carroll, Nabil Bentaleb and Harry Winks all battle for sirst-team places - as does Ryan Mason.

Then Mauricio Pochettino decided Eric Dier should move up from defence and it became even harder for game time in the heart of Spurs' midfield.

The young England international has been a revelation in his holding role but it has given the likes of Bentaleb and Mason a mountain to climb to play regular first-team football.

However, Mason has made it clear while speaking to The Guardian that he is happy s long as the team is doing well and he is pleased for his team-mate:

“Eric brings a lot to this team.

“He brings solidarity and is a very good player. When I play in there with him, it does give me the extra freedom to push on because I know he is going to be there.

"I’ve been fine this season. The team’s doing well and that is the main thing. Obviously, I’d like to have played more. But I am fit now and the season isn’t over yet.”

The former Sporting Lisbon player has been fantastic this term and he now looks certain to be in the England squad for this summer's European Championship.

Unfortunately for Mason, that inclusion might come at his expense.

But a Premier League title might soften the blow.
