Rodney Marsh sums Sunderland's defending up in one word on Twitter

West Ham beat the Black Cats 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Former forward Rodney Marsh felt Sunderland's defending for West Ham United's winner on Saturday afternoon was 'diabolical.'

Indeed, Michail Antonio scored a first-half winner for West Ham against Sunderland at Upton Park but Marsh insists the away side's defending could have been far better during the strike.

He said on Twitter during the game:

The goal aside, though, there were no more slip-ups from the Black Cats - and a one-goal loss to a side sitting fifth in the Premier League is hardly a disaster.

Sunderland can take positives from their West Ham defeat but, at the same time, their inability to take chances will also worry them.

Next up for the Hammers is a clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night and Sunderland host Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

Sam Allardyce will no doubt be relishing home advantage against the Eagles and Sunderland will need the pick-me-up after this West Ham loss.
