Paul Merson's one-word response to Everton takeover

The pundit is concerned by Everton's new majority shareholder.

Paul Merson believes news of Everton's takeover is 'worrying,' according to Sky Sports.

Indeed, Farhad Moshiri has bought a 49.9% stake in Everton, as reported by BBC Sport.

And, on Soccer Saturday, after Jeff Stelling announced news of Everton's sale, Merson could be heard in the background muttering the word: "Worrying."

Presumably, Merson is worried for the rest of the Premier League. Everton have been a 'nearly' team for quite some time now but, with more funds behind them, could the Toffees finally step things up a gear?

It's certainly an interesting time to be an Everton supporter. It's too soon to praise the takeover. Plenty of new owners have been lauded in the past only to be lambasted soon after - Tom Hicks and George Gillet, Massimo Cellino, Randy Lerner.

But, if Everton have the right man at the helm, they can finally compete financially with some of the sides that may have outmuscled them in the past.
