Leicester star Riyad Mahrez is not good enough for Barcelona, blasts Paul Merson

The Leicester City star is reportedly being eyed by the La Liga giants, as well as Real Madrid.

Riyad Mahrez must learn he is not good enough to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid, Paul Merson has told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, broadcast from 12pm February 27th.

The Foxes ace has been in inspired form this season, playing a huge role in their rise to the top of the table and challenge for the Premier League title.

For many people he is the favourite to win Player of the Year, and his form has reportedly caught the eye of Europe’s elite, with Fox Sports claiming both Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in his services.

Merson though has rubbished those links, saying Mahrez must learn he is not good enough to play for either side.

“All these lads deserve a big pay rise if they go on and win the league,” he told Soccer Saturday.

“But with Mahrez, he can’t play for Barcelona. He needs to get that in his head. If Real Madrid are letting Mesut Ozil go, how is Mahrez going to play?”

“Mahrez is a good player, but he’s got to do it next season. The lad can play, but I want to see him do it again next year.”

While the likes of Mahrez may not be good enough to play for the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, there is sure to be firm interest in his services this summer.

That could come from the Premier League, with his performances sure to have caught the eye of the so called top four likely to have had scouts watching him this season.
