Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Nacer Chadli's performance up front

Nacer Chadli

Nacer Chadli filled in up front for Tottenham Hotspur against Fiorentina.

Nacer Chadli stepped into the very large shoes vacated by injured striker Harry Kane, as Tottenham beat Fiorentina.

Tottenham's weak point has widely been acknowledged as their lack of an alternative to the England striker, and it would be false to describe Chadli as anything other than a makeshift replacement in his role.

Yet the Belgian did not let Tottenham down, helping them to a 3-0 win, 4-1 on aggregate.

He played a key role in the second goal, with his shot spilled by the goalkeeper, for Erik Lamela to fire into the net.

Chadli could almost have scored himself, putting the ball in the back of the net early in the second half, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

His effort for Lamela's goal was his only shot on target, aside from the offside goal, while he created one chance. Chadli touched the ball 32 times, fewer than any other Tottenham starter, but to be expected from a striker.

Spurs have a decision to make whether to include Chadli against Swansea City from the start on Sunday and keep Kane in reserve or on the bench, with games against West Ham and Tottenham days later, or rush the England striker back.

His efforts up front truly split fans, who offered a range of opinion on his performance on social media. Here is a look at what they had to say...
