Speaking to the Telegraph, Steven Gerrard has explained what he noticed about Jurgen Klopp when training with Liverpool over the Christmas period.
Gerrard said: “Klopp has a presence – an aura which I sensed when I was back at the training ground at Christmas. The way he delivers his message inspires players. There is an honesty and integrity about him and he lets his players know exactly what is expected in a clear way. People see the jokey side of him in public but there is steel in there. I wish I was younger and sampling it on a daily basis.”
Gerrard linked up with Klopp over the Christmas period, training with Liverpool as a means to keep his fitness up during the MLS off-season.
It was early in Klopp’s career at Anfield, but the Reds’ legend was clearly impressed by the German, believing he has a presence which rubs off on the players.
Gerrard claims that Klopp has an aura which he sensed whilst training under him, making the head coach an inspiring and strong character.
Gerrard even wishes that he was a younger player, so he could be playing for Liverpool still and working under Klopp on a daily basis, just to experience the full range of the German’s managerial skills.
Klopp has been at Anfield since the beginning of October, thing charge of 32 matches. He has led Liverpool to the League Cup Final - which is being played this weekend - and has kept them in the Europa League.
His current win ratio stands at 48.3%, and he will be hoping to pick up his first silverware this weekend.
