Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka believes Jordan Rhodes, David Nugent, Chris Martin and Ross McCormack are the best strikers in the Championship, the Northern Echo report.
Boro take on Fulham this weekend with striker Ross McCormack a central figure to the fixture, having been the subject of intense interest from Karanka’s side during the January transfer window.
The Teesside club instead opted for Jordan Rhodes, yet Karanka still rates McCormack as among the best strikers in the league alongside Derby County front man Chris Martin.
“I know everything about Ross. He is one of the most dangerous players in the Championship. McCormack is and I like Chris Martin from Derby also. I have Jordan and David Nugent who are the best! Third and fourth can be Ross and Martin,” Karanka explained.
McCormack has long been thought of as one of the Championship’s better strikers, though Fulham’s poor form over the past two seasons means he has yet to be in a position to help challenge for promotion.
The former Leeds United man has 16 league goals despite Fulham sitting in 18th position, while another of Karanka’s highly-rated opponents Chris Martin has ten goals this campaign.
The Derby man has found goals hard to come by of late, scoring just once from open play since October.
Still, Martin is a pivotal figure for the Rams and to get the best out of him upfront will aid the club’s hopes of securing promotion to the Premier League at the third attempt.
Derby travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend looking to secure their third win on the bounce following a disastrous run of eight league games without a win.
