Chris Sutton has written in The Daily Record that Celtic defender Mikael Lustig is losing his legs.
Lustig has been on the books of Celtic since 2012 and has a contract until June 2018, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
Former Celtic striker Sutton believes that the Sweden international defender is losing his pace.
The former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker appreciates the 29-year-old right-back’s contribution to the Bhoys over the past few years, but he has suggested that the ex-Rosenborg man is past his prime.
“Ronny’s systems are designed for the wider guys to step infield and leave space for full-backs to bomb on,” Sutton wrote in The Daily Record.
“That’ll work okay on the left if Kieran Tierney is around and Emilio Izaguirre did it before him but Mikael Lustig is losing his legs on the right.
“No disrespect to the Swede, he’s been a very good servant to Celtic but the legs look heavy now in terms of racing up and down a flank for 90 minutes.”
Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 61 points from 26 matches.
The Hoops are six points clear of Aberdeen, who are currently second in the standings and are their main challengers for the league title.
Ronny Deila’s side will take on Hamilton Academical away from home in the Scottish Premiership this evening.
Celtic are expected to pick up all three points at New Douglas Park, and anything other than an away win will come as a surprise.
