The two sides meet in the Capital One Cup final on Sunday.
And it a resounding win for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, as seven of his current first team make it into the line up compared to four from the Reds.
Starting in goal, James has gone with England number one Joe Hart ahead of Simon Mignolet, saying Hart is “still the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.”
He is joined by City teammate Vincent Kompany, who starts at centre back alongside Martin Skrtel, whom James says goes in his all-time Liverpool XI also.
Nathaniel Clyne fills the right back spot while it is Gael Clichy who makes it in at left back.
Moving onto midfield, that area is dominated by Manchester City as James picks three from their plethora of midfield options.
First choice in Kevin De Bruyne, followed by Yaya Toure and Raheem Sterling, with the former goalkeeper saying the latter is “coping very well” with the pressure he finds himself under at the Etihad.
The only Liverpool player to make the midfield is Jordan Henderson; with James describing him as a “decent dog” who is “Liverpool’s engine in a lot of respects.”
Up front it is a dream duo as he picks Daniel Sturridge alongside Sergio Aguero, in a side that would certainly be full of goals.
