Siem De Jong has struggled for appearances ever since moving to Newcastle back in 2014, and his injury problems have been highly frustrating.
The Dutch midfielder has found it hugely difficult to stay fit, but Luuk De Jong believes that his sibling can play an important role for the club.
“He’s (Siem’s) had some injuries and for him it’s not been so good at Newcastle but now he’s fit again,” De Jong said.
“Siem wants to prove himself also for the team and to show his qualities.
“He wants to have the chance to show his qualities.
“He’s always a professional guy who will always put the team and won’t think only about himself.
“If he gets the chance hopefully he can show the manager that he has to play more often, of course.”
Luuk De Jong had a terrible spell at Newcastle, himself, back in 2014 - when he failed to score in any of his 12 appearances for the Magpies.
At the moment, Siem’s time in England has not been much more productive, as he has made just four Premier League starts in nearly two years.
The 27-year-old has failed to convince Steve McClaren that he has a part to play, and he has generally only been utilised as a substitute so far.
The former Ajax man is currently out injured, after damaging his eye, but he is set to return for Newcastle’s crucial run in.
The Magpies are in the thick of a relegation fight, and they will be hoping that De Jong can show his class, as they aim to avoid the drop.
