Liverpool, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla are the teams to avoid, says Jermaine Jenas.
Jermaine Jenas named four teams on BT Sport/ESPN on Thursday night following the game between Tottenham Hotspur and Fiorentina that the North London outfit should be looking to avoid in the last 16.
Tottenham have progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League courtesy of a 4-1 aggregate victory over Serie A outfit Fiorentina.
Having played out a 1-1 draw in Florence last week, Spurs got the better of the Italian side 3-0 at White Hart Lane in North London on Thursday evening.
Former Tottenham midfielder Jenas believes that it would be better for Tottenham’s chances of further progress in the prestigious European competition if they avoid Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, Liverpool and Manchester United in the last-16 stage.
“The obvious one, I think, is Dortmund,” said Jenas on BT Sport/ESPN on Thursday night following the game between Tottenham Hotspur and Fiorentina when asked to name the teams Tottenham should look to avoid in the last 16. “Very, very tough team.
“I think Sevilla are having an indifferent season in their league, but they are holders and they are very experienced within this competition.
“And, also to be honest, at this stage you really want to avoid the Premier League teams.”
Liverpool and United are not having a great season in the Premier League, and one suspects that both of them will be aiming to win the Europa League.
Tottenham should also be looking to win the competition, although they are probably eyeing the Premier League title more.
