The youngster has broken through into the Gunners first team this season.
Iwobi has made the step up to the first team squad this season, making six appearances for the Gunners as well as breaking through on the international stage with Nigeria.
He has been impressive in those displays, with many predicting he could be set for a bright future at the Emirates.
And Wilshere admits that of the current crop of young talent, Iwobi is currently the one who is leading the pack.
“There are a few I have been impressed with in the youth team but Alex is leading the way now,” he told arsenal.com.
“He wants to learn, he’s got the right attitude, puts in the right work in training and when he gets game time he has shown the fans what he can do.”
“It’s probably six or seven years since I made the step and nobody since has come up from the under-9s to make it into the first team. You’re seeing now that another one has done it and that will give the young lads confidence.”
Iwobi will now be hoping that he can get more first team opportunities between now and the end of the season.
They are likely to come in the FA Cup if anywhere, with Wenger having used the youngster in the competition on several occasions already when rotating his squad.
The Frenchman is likely to do the same in future as he seeks to keep his squad fit for the Premier League title run in, especially given the awful injury record they have had across this season already.
