The Tottenham forward seems to have won the former coach over.
But, several months ago, Hoddle had warned that Lamela could be sold by the north London side in January.
The 23-year-old has been in better form this season and it has swayed the pundit's views...
Hoddle told ITV on Thursday night: "They had good interplay from the three up front [without Kane]. Lamela’s definitely played better this season. It was a beautiful finish. He’s playing with real confidence,"
However, Hoddle told Kicca back in August: "It concerns me about them up front. Harry Kane staying is great but he needs to play up front with people.
"[Christian] Eriksen needs a big season, even bigger than last year, and people like Lamela have got to turn up this year, if not you’ll see him sold in the window."
That's not really to criticise Hoddle, though. The Tottenham fanbase was firmly split when it came to Lamela earlier this season and the 23-year-old had plenty of critics.
Many may still even question the Argentine's consistency but Mauricio Pochettino has shown faith in the Spurs forward and the patience has certainly been worthwhile.
Hoddle's contrasting comments are more to do with how much Lamela has improved. Past criticism was justified - and so is current praise. With both Premier League and Europa League games to play during a busy run-in, every single Tottenham player is vital - and Lamela could be very important indeed.
