Charlie Nicholas discusses Van Gaal's future, explains Manchester United v Midtjylland prediction

Charlie Nicholas believes Manchester United will beat Midtjylland 2-0 tonight.

Pundit Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports that he thinks Manchester United will edge past Danish side Midtjylland in the Europa League this evening.

The Red Devils suffered embarrassment in Denmark a week ago, as goals from Pione Sisto and Paul Onuachu cancelled out Memphis Depay's opener, sending United home with a 2-1 defeat.

It was another dark day in Louis van Gaal's reign as United boss, and the Dutchman appears to be heading for the Old Trafford exit this summer after a disappointing campaign, considering the money that has been spent.

With just three wins in the last eight Premier League games, United sit six points off the top four, and their best chance of Champions League qualification may now come by winning the Europa League.

Midtjylland travel to Old Trafford this evening to try and finish off the impossible job, as nobody gave them a chance of winning the tie - even though they beat Southampton in the Europa League qualifiers earlier this season.

Now, pundit Charlie Nicholas has discussed Van Gaal's situation in his Sky Sports predictions column, suggesting that tonight's game and the fixture against Arsenal this weekend could decide his long-term future at Old Trafford.

Nicholas also stated that he thinks United will win the game 2-0 - which would of course be enough to send them through in to the next round on aggregate.

"We had the debate on Soccer Saturday about Manchester United and what they are doing," said Nicholas. "What will they do with Louis van Gaal? Would replacing him with Ryan Giggs really give them a lift? What we do know is they need wins and this is another must-win for LVG. Then there's Arsenal on Sunday where they can keep their top-four hopes alive."

"They've obviously got a lot of injuries and we're at a stage where they've just got to win this to keep their reputation in tact after the humiliation of last week. There's got to be a lot of anger in that United side and I'm expecting them to respond sufficiently to qualify," he added.
