Bristol City boss Lee Johnson admits he nearly joined Nottingham Forest as a player

The two teams face off at the City Ground this weekend.

Nottingham Forest take on Bristol City in the Championship this weekend. The game at the City Ground will see Forest, whose slim promotion hopes now look dead and buried, take on a Bristol side fighting for Championship survival.

The Robins currently look good for survival, as the bottom three are well off the pace, but a 4-0 loss against Brighton in their last fixture will have been a blow.

Apart from that result the club have been performing well under the management of recent appointment Lee Johnson.

Himself a former Bristol City player he has today revealed he might have ended up at Nottingham Forest.

Speaking in pre-game press conference he is quoted by the official Bristol City Twitter account as stating:

"I almost went to Nottingham Forest when Keith Burt and Colin Calderwood were there.

"But in the end I decided against it."

That would have been around the time he swapped an ill-fated stint at Hearts for Bristol City - the team he leads into action at the City Ground this weekend.

It was at Bristol he thrived in central midfield and now he hopes to drive the team toward success in a management capacity.

Forest are up next and Johnson will be hoping to get one over the team who once wanted to sign him as a a player.
