BBC pundit says Tottenham won’t win league title, explains why

Andy Townsend

Tottenham Hotspur are aiming to win the Premier League title this season.

Former Chelsea and Aston Villa midfielder Andy Townsend said on the BBC 606 5 live show on Sunday evening (February 21) that Tottenham Hotspur will not win the Premier League title this season.

“Of course, they can, (but) my heart says they will probably just come up a little bit short,” said Townsend whether Tottenham can win the Premier League title this season.

“Funny enough, I was looking at with 12 games to go, the reverse fixtures of the 12 that they have got left, they suffered, Tottenham. They've really suffered already this season.”

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 51 points from 26 matches.

Spurs are level on points with third-placed and North London rivals Arsenal, and are just two points behind leaders Leicester City.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are four points clear of Manchester City, who are currently fourth in the standings and have arguably the best squad among the four teams still left in the running for the league title.

Tottenham have a very young squad and lack experience in terms of winning league titles, but they have lost just three Premier League games all season.

The North London outfit have been the most consistent team in the English top flight this campaign, and they have as good a chance as any of their other challengers to clinch the championship.
