The Sunderland boss has been speaking about two of his currently injured players.
The Black Cats have had to wait patiently to build on their 2-1 victory against Manchester United last time out due to the fourth round of the FA Cup; however, this weekend they have the opportunity to face one of England’s in-form teams.
West Ham have been many people’s surprise package this season with the majority of their summer signings hitting the ground running. But Sunderland’s January business was arguably the best of the bunch and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top on Saturday.
Speaking to the Chronicle on Thursday, Allardyce gave an update regarding Jeremain Lens, who was taken off at half-time against Manchester City and missed the subsequent matches against Liverpool and United.
“Jeremain has had surgery and he’s not too far away,” the Sunderland boss said. “He will probably be back (training) at the end of next week and maybe be back at Southampton.
“Duncan (Watmore) will be out for several weeks. He’s still a while away.”
Sunderland are currently 19th in the Premier League table but with just one point separating them from safety as things stand, and with 12 matches remaining, fans will be hopeful that they can build on their impressive recent form.
