The Romanian has not played for The Saints since last February.
Unfortunately those appearances have been limited as he has suffered some injury issues in his time at St Mary's Stadium. Gardos, who signed from Steaua Bucharest for a fee reported by the BBC to be in the region of £6 million in August 2014, most recently suffered a serious knee injury in a pre-season friendly against Feyenoord was ruled out for the rest of 2015.
The 26-year-old central defender has therefore been on the sidelines and is not taking part for either Southampton or the Romanian national team, for whom he has 14 caps.
However he has now stepped up his comeback from injury and is actually back in first-team training for Southampton.
He and Jay Rodriguez, another long-term injury victim, are now both back in action and hoping to feature for the club soon.
Gardos has now taken to Twitter to thank the Southampton fans for all their support during his tough times out of the football picture:
Wow! Thank you all for the wonderful messages. They all mean a lot to me. Helped me a lot during these last months. Thank you, #SaintsFC!— Florin Gardoș (@floringardos5) February 24, 2016
Gardos has impressed in his fleeting appearances with Southampton but he has played just 18 times since his arrival and has not featured in a competitive fixture since picking up an injury against West Brom last February.
Twelve months on and it seems he might finally get a chance to add to his appearance tally.
