The cumbersome striker side-footed a penalty straight at R's goalkeeper Alex Smithies with the score 0-0, before equalising with a deft header in the 63rd minute, after Daniel Tozser had rifled the visitors ahead.
It was only the third Championship goal Nuhiu had scored all season, but the sixth he'd been directly involved in in his last 11 league outings, and was a reward for an improved performance post penalty miss.
The Austrian barely put a foot - or head - wrong after that. But while some Owls fans we're keen to see the positives in his display, others could not overlook the earlier gaffe from 12 yards.
The Twitter reaction was inevitably mixed. Let's start with the haters:
Cheers Nuhiu for the awful pen and sitters/attempted sitters you missed. Cheers met #awfulfootballer— Michael jones (@MikesJ11) February 23, 2016
Dads just walked in from the match.. No hi or anything just "Nuhiu missed a penalty, absolutely rubbish"— olivia (@_oliviashaw) February 23, 2016
Died inside when Hooper picked up the ball and then handed it to big Atdhe #swfc— Tom Wright (@TomWrightstuff) February 23, 2016
ok so who's idea was it for Atdhe to take the penalty, speak now or forever hold your peace #swfc— bec (@beccahelliwell) February 23, 2016
'Why did Nuhiu take the penalty?'
This guy had a valid point...

Maybe because he's been our penalty taker for the last 2 seasons and never missed one before today #swfc
Others refused to dwell on Nuhiu's miss, however, and the consensus among many was that he was one of the Owls' star performers on the night...
Get the f_ck of Atdhe back gives his all if he's not good enough thats down to the manager he picks him but I forgot u all no better #swfc— David (@DaveOx57) February 24, 2016
Glad it was Nuhiu who got the equaliser… Didn’t want him dwelling on the penalty miss. Good on him. #SWFC— Joe Crann (@YesWeCrann) February 23, 2016
Sheffield Wednesday against QPR sounded a good one Adthe Nuhiu with the equalizer he's a top player and doesn't get the credit he deserves.— joshua bunting (@Distillerymad) February 23, 2016
2 points dropped poor performance by the referee. Nuhiu brilliant apart from the penalty thought Joao played alright tbh— Ben (@bensommerville_) February 23, 2016
Despite missing pen I have Nuhiu as my MoM for #swfc, BUT with Ballers like Hooper,Wallace, Bannan & McGeady in team why is he taking pens?!— Peter Dadswell (@Dadders) February 23, 2016
Can't wait until Nuhiu scores a 94th minute winner at Wembley to get us promoted so everyone that moans can never do it again— JB4 (@jakebensonswfc) February 23, 2016
Others, though, remain unconvinced...
As for nuhiu, dont let goal fool you hes not good enough end of.— Lucas (@Gamwell96) February 23, 2016
