Scott Carson has warned Derby County that their 3-1 win at Brentford will count for nothing if they lose at home to Blackburn Rovers tonight.
Derby ended an eight-match winless run in dramatic fashion on Saturday as three goals in the final 10 minutes from Jeff Hendrick, Cyrus Christie and Chris Martin kept them in the top six.
The much-needed three points helped breathe fresh life into a Championship campaign which had shown worrying signs of unravelling, with their last victory coming on Boxing Day.
Consequently, Carson feels that the win can prove a watershed moment in the Rams' season - but stressed it would be a "wasted effort" if they fail to beat Blackburn.
The goalkeeper told Derby's official website: “It was nice to see that it finally clicked again for us and it was there for all to see at full time what the result meant to us. Hopefully it’s the catalyst for us to really start heading in the right direction now.
“It was a big thing for us to get three points, especially because we deserved it. This has to kick us on now and we need to put in exactly the same performance. If we don’t, the Brentford game almost becomes a wasted effort.”
In sixth place, Darren Wassall's side sit three points clear of Birmingham City in seventh, but eight adrift of the automatic promotion spots.
