A scout from Aston Villa has confirmed Laurent Depoitre is a summer transfer target, Voetbalkrant reports.
The scout revealed these details to the Belgian media outlet whilst watching Anderlecht’s Under-19s feature in the UEFA Youth League.
Villa have long been linked with Depoitre, having hoped to sign him in the January transfer window, but a move this summer is looking very probable.
He wants to leave, and whilst Gent are not being pushed to sell him, they understand that Depoitre wants the chance to play in a top European league before the end of his career. He is 27-years-old currently, meaning there is only a small window for the striker to remain in the peak of his career.
Villa are confirmed as being interested in formalising a move for the striker in the summer, even if they are relegated to the Championship.
Depoitre is surely unwilling to drop to the second tier to join Villa, considering his wish to leave Belgium comes from a desire to play in a top league.
Villa are also unwilling to match the asking price placed on Depoitre’s head by Gent.
The report claims they want at least £11.9 million for his services, but the struggling Premier League club are only willing to make a bid of roughly £6.3 million.
