People News: Third Point, Point 72

Hedge Fund

One of the top directors at Dan Loeb’s hedge fund has left the firm, The New York Post has learned.

The newspaper reports that Tim Lash, who headed Third Point’s media, telecom and tech investments, and who helped Loeb pocket a $1bn profit in its 2012 proxy fight with Yahoo!, left the $17.5bn fund after 13 years, sources said.

Lash focused on event-driven, special situations; distressed debt; and activist investing, and he oversaw Third Point Ventures.

In the meantime, Bloomberg News reports that Point72 Asset Management, the firm that manages the fortune of billionaire investor Steven A. Cohen, has added Ai Yoshino as a trader in Asia, said a person with knowledge of the matter.

Yoshino most recently worked for Mitsubishi UFJ Securities (HK) as a Hong Kong and Japan equity sales trader, according to data posted on the website of the city’s Securities and Futures Commission and his LinkedIn profile.
