Morgan Stanley's energy exposure at $15.9bn

Morgan Stanley’s institutional securities unit had $15.9bn in loans and lending commitments related to the energy industry at the end of last year, down 7.6% from the third quarter.

Bloomberg News reports that about 40% of the total was for junk-rated counterparties, the firm said Tuesday in a regulatory filing, up from about a third as of September 30.

The portfolio included $1.7bn in loans and $2.7bn in lending commitments to oil and gas exploration companies, according to the filing.
