Lewie Coyle has had to wait a while for his big chance at Leeds United, but when the time came, he made it count.
The under-21 captain began Steve Evans' reign as fourth choice right-back behind Gaetano Berardi, Sam Byram and Scott Wootton.
Byram was sold in January to West Ham, while Berardi has been out injured, and Scott Wootton was finally taken out of the team after his own goal against Watford in the FA Cup at the weekend.
Coyle, 20, performed strongly against Fulham, showing indications he can step up in the same way Charlie Taylor did last season after Stephen Warnock was sold.
His performance in the 1-1 draw was enough to make anybody wonder, what took Steve Evans so long to put him in, but better late than never is the apt phrase.
Coyle touched the ball 80 times, more than any other Leeds player, and made four tackles, the same as the rest of the defence did combined.
The timing was ideal, with Gaetano Berardi making his comeback for the under-21 side a day earlier, and this may have been the last chance for Coyle to make an impression.
Steve Evans now has a big decision to make ahead of the next game against Brighton on Monday, but Coyle has done himself a big favour with his performance.
Here is a look at how Leeds fans reacted to his display...
Lewie Coyle has given a great account of himself. Think every last ditch tackle has been him tonight. #lufc— I'd Radebe Leeds (@Radebe_Leeds) February 23, 2016
Lewie Coyle already showing that he should have that RB position for the rest of the season. #lufc— Jack (@EllandReports) February 23, 2016
Well mark the day the end of Scott Wootton (Hopefully!) Lewie Coyle has been great #lufc— Bryn Johnson (@BrynLufc) February 23, 2016
Pleased for young Lewie Coyle tonight but he should have been playing for a few months now ahead of Wootton #lufc— Tom Raynor (@TOMLUFC1995) February 23, 2016
