The two sides meet in the cup final on Sunday, with Jurgen Klopp looking to secure his first ever trophy as Liverpool manager.
They go into the game confident of being able to beat their opponents, having beaten Manuel Pellegrini’s side 4-1 at the Etihad earlier in the season.
And Rush says the Citizens are ideal opponents for his former team, as they will allow them to play football and make it an entertaining game.
“I think it will be an entertaining game,” he told Sky Sports.
“Manchester City will let you play and that will suit Liverpool. They’ll let them play like they did at Manchester City and Liverpool took them to pieces.”
“When you win the first, you want to win more and more. It could be a big springboard if Liverpool win.”
The Reds will certainly be hoping that they repeat the display they put on the Etihad earlier in the campaign on Sunday afternoon.
A big boost to their hopes of doing so will be the return of Philippe Coutinho, who was fantastic in that victory and is evidently key to his side’s performances.
Similarly they have Daniel Sturridge back fit and firing, and will hope he can once again provide them with the goalscoring touch that they have been meeting all season.
