Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Lambert speaks highly of Derby County striker Chris Martin

Norwich City

The pair worked together at Norwich City.

Derby County face Blackburn Rovers this evening and that means Paul Lambert could face a former front-man or two.

He had Darren Bent and Andreas Weimann at Aston Villa whilst number one Derby striker Chris Martin was one of his players at Norwich City.

Martin worked under Lambert at Carrow Road for some time but never truly imposed himself as a first-team regular at the club.

In the end he joined Derby County after a period on loan, joining on a free transfer at the end of his contract with The Canaries.

But ahead of facing him this evening Lambert had kind words to say about his former striker.

He is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying:

"(Martin) was probably one of the most naturally gifted finishers I've worked with - either foot, he could score,' Lambert added.

"He was a massive part of Norwich. Does it surprise me he's done well? Not really; he's a terrific player."

Martin will be hopeful of starting for Derby after finding the net in their last game against Brentford. That was his first goal of the new year after a period of poor form for the Scotland international.

He will be hoping to continue a scoring run by notching against his former boss this evening.
