The former forward believes the loss may tempt Arsene Wenger into buying a world-class striker.
The Gunners took on the reigning Champions League champions on Tuesday evening at the Emirates, with the Catalans coming away with a 2-0 victory.
It had not been the dominant display many had predicted from the La Liga champions though, with Arsenal having several chances to take the lead at 0-0.
However, nobody in the side was clinical enough to do so, with Alex Oxlade Chamberlain missing their best chance of the game.
And Collymore has suggested the loss could be enough to tempt Arsene Wenger into finally signing a world-class striker.
Well played Arsenal and Barcelona.— Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) February 23, 2016
Thoroughly enjoyable fair.
Maybe Arsene may be convinced to buy that world class finisher yet.
Who the Gunners could possibly sign though is unknown given that the world’s best strikers are all currently at Europe’s biggest clubs.
They were strongly linked with a move for Karim Benzema last summer, and it’s likely they will resurface when the next transfer window opens.
A positive for Arsenal fans is that they have not been shy to spend big money in recent seasons, having paid big for both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, and maybe they’ll do so again to secure the striker they need.
