Report: Pep Guardiola to offer Mikel Arteta coaching role at Manchester City

Guardiola will attempt to bring the Arsenal midfielder to Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola will offer Mikel Arteta his first full-time coaching role this summer, the Times reports.

There is a belief that Arteta will retire at the end of this season, and Guardiola will offer the Spanish midfielder the chance to join his coaching staff at the Etihad when he takes charge of City in the summer.

Arteta is a long-time friend of Guardiola, and they have held meetings together this season, knowing that the 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of this campaign.

The Arsenal veteran started his career at Barcelona when Guardiola was in the first-team, and the head coach likely sees many similarities between him and Arteta. They both played the same position, and Guardiola may believe he can mould Arteta into a top class coach.

There are still no confirmations that Arteta is ready to hang up his playing boots, but should he wish to retire their is a coaching role on offer at City straight away.

Arteta has played 283 games in the Premier League, turning out for both Arsenal and Everton, whilst also playing for PSG, Sociedad and Rangers.
