According to a report in TeamTalk, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Liam Gibson from Newcastle United.
The 18-year-old is yet to be offered a professional contract by the Magpies, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.
And Palace are reportedly considering making a move for the prospect, who Alan Pardew knows well from his time at St. James’ Park.
Pardew was in charge at Newcastle between 2010 and 2014, when Gibson was considered one of the Tyneside’s brightest up-and-coming talents.
The full-back has still not made his senior debut for Newcastle, but he has started to come into Steve McClaren’s plans more recently.
Gibson was named on the substitutes’ bench in Newcastle’s recent match against West Bromwich Albion, and he was also included in the squad which traveled to Spain for some warm weather training.
Youth-team coach Peter Beardsley has told Newcastle’s official site that the youngster did well during his time training with the senior squad in La Manga, and there is now an expectation he could push for a starting spot over the coming months.
Palace are apparently hoping to take advantage of the youngster’s current contractual situation, though, and they could make a move to try and convince the defender to switch to Selhurst Park in the near future.
