Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour suggested on the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on BT Sport 2 on Saturday morning (February 20, broadcast from 10am) that Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino could end up at Real Madrid or Barcelona.
“I think Pochettino has done a great job there (Tottenham) that if he does leave, I am looking at Real Madrid and Barcelona,” said Parlour.
It is quite a bold prediction from Parlour, especially as Madrid and Barcelona are two of the biggest clubs in the world.
As good as Pochettino has been at Tottenham for the past two seasons or so, he is not among the ‘elite’ managers.
The likes of Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola fall in that bracket, and the Spurs boss is not at their level yet.
Moreover, Barcelona do not need a new manager anytime soon. Luis Enrique is doing a remarkable job at Camp Nou, and it is unlikely that he and Barca will part company anytime soon.
Perhaps Madrid could need a manager in the summer or at the end of next season if things do not work out with Zinedine Zidane, but it is unlikely that club president Florentino Perez would look at Pochettino as a replacement.
After all, the Tottenham boss does not have the experience of managing big-name players.
