Kevin Stewart has agreed a new contract with Liverpool today.

The 22-year-old signed for the Reds in 2014, arriving from Tottenham Hotspur, and he has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Anfield.

The versatile midfielder-cum-defender has been earmarked by head coach Jurgen Klopp as a key player for the Reds, and he made his debut in the FA Cup third round tie against Exeter.

He went on to play every minute of Liverpool’s FA Cup run, as they were knocked out in the fourth round by West Ham.

His Premier League debut came last week, playing the final 25 minutes of the Reds’ 6-0 win over Aston Villa.

He is clearly highly rated by Klopp, and his recent performances suggest that the head coach has been correct to promote Stewart to the first-team already.

The youngster is currently nursing an injury that will keep him out until next month, but it is expected that Stewart will feature more and more as the season wears on.

Following the news, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to praise the club for handing Stewart a much-deserved deal to extend his stay on Merseyside. One fan even said that Stewart could be Liverpool's Eric Dier, the player currently in Tottenham's defensive midfield - the position Stewart would have wanted to take at White Hart Lane.
