Newcastle are currently in a fight for survival but Lascelles feels they should be doing better.
The Magpies are precariously placed in the relegation zone on goal difference - two goals worse off than Norwich City.
Lascelles is quoted in the Shields Gazette, saying: “We have sat down and had a lot of meetings and we have got loads of talent, that’s the frustrating thing about it.
“We’ve got so much talent and shouldn’t be in the position that we are in.
“We just need to take that confidence, because I think that is what it is, to do the job at home and away games.”
Newcastle's poor start to the season has a lot to answer for as well as their inconsistency. They can point to the fact they had a new Head Coach taking over in Steve McClaren, as well as several injury problems, but if they had the talent, they will have been able to adapt to his methods a lot quicker and would be in healthier position in the league standings.
They have also signed some players in the recent transfer window such as Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend who have shown flashes of what they can do, but there has yet to be any consistency from Newcastle as they seem to win one then slip up in the next game.
If they have the talent, they need to show both that and the consistency between now and the end of the season to make sure of their place in the top flight.
