Could Shilow Tracey end up playing in defence for Tottenham?

White Hart Lane 3

The January signing is currently playing at right-back for Tottenham Hotspur's under-18s.

When Tottenham Hotspur announced the signing of Shilow Tracey from Ebbsfleet United in January, Spurs fans will have been forgiven for wondering just what they were getting for their money?

After all, the 17-year-old is only just starting out in his professional career and unlike fellow teenager Dele Alli, he is very much one for the future.

When he arrived at White Hart Lane Tracey was described as a midfielder who was equally comfortable in the centre of the park or operating behind the front-man, so it may come as a surprise to learn that on Saturday he played at right-back for Tottenham’s under-18s against their Arsenal counterparts.

It was a good day for Tracey and his Spurs teammates as they ran out 4-0 winners against the Gunners courtesy of a brace from Marcus Edwards and a goal apiece from Ryan Loft and Samuel Shashoua. But it also suggests that the January signing is versatile enough to solve a number of potential problems down the line.

Tracey may well end up as a central midfielder, but at his age he looks set to feature in a few different positions and it is where he performs best that he could end up appearing when he does finally get that call from Pochettino.
