Theo Walcott was a second halg substitute for Arsenal as the Gunners attempted to take the game to Barcelona.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had produced a promising but erratic first half, and manager Arsene Wenger felt the need to change the team with his 49th minute substitution.
While Oxlade-Chamberlain was ineffective in the final third, he linked up well with Hector Bellerin down the right and his defensive contribution helped keep Barcelona goalless, with the Spanish side not even managing a shot on target in the first half.
That may never have lasted, but Walcott coming on allowed more space for Barcelona to attack, with the forward adding little defensively.
Unfortunately his contribution in attack was non-descript either, with his most telling impact being a mix-up with Olivier Giroud midway through the second half which would have been comical if it was not so tragic from an Arsenal perspective.
Inclusive of the four minutes of injury time, Walcott played a full 45 minutes - but managed only 10 touches, with no shots at goal.
Much more is expected of the England international, especially in a home tie, regardless of the opponent.
Here is a look at how fans reacted to his display...
We laugh at the Rooney situation but ours with Walcott is actually worse.— J.Elimi (@ArsenalTube) February 23, 2016
I'd prefer Sanchez, Ozil, Oxlade/Campbell anytime any day. Walcott can go to hell— Mstephano (@AmMstephano) February 23, 2016
What's happened to Walcott? I swear he was sick like 2-3 years ago, borderline world class— ~ (@loicazette) February 23, 2016
Very poor from Walcott today. Very, very lacklustre. He's hardly ever in the game.— pear (@HenryM131) February 23, 2016
Walcott was non existent when he came on. Maybe it's harsh on him but recently I just can't see him ever consolidating a starting spot here.— Joe (@RedAndWhite11) February 23, 2016
I used to defend Walcott.. But I really wouldn't understand what has happened to him. He just disappears in games nowadays.. it hurts really— Francis (@Flanchich) February 23, 2016
Like seriously what is wrong with Walcott? Why is Campbell not ahead of him when he has contributed so much more?— Ruaridh MacIver (@RuaridhMacIver4) February 23, 2016
