Taking to his personal Twitter account, West Ham goalkeeper Adrian has reacted to the news that Raphael Spiegel has agreed a two-year contract extension with the Hammers.
Congratulations big man!You deserve it amigo https://t.co/miAUOgbBcy— Adrián San Miguel (@AdriSanMiguel) February 22, 2016
Spiegel signed a new deal with the Hammers, keeping him at the Boleyn Ground until the summer of 2018 - with the option for a further two years on top of that.
The 23-year-old keeper is highly rated, and although he has still not made his debut for the Hammers first-team, he frequently trains with the senior squad and is expected to become a senior payer in the future.
He has spent this season in the Under-21 squad, but Slaven Bilic had no problem offering Spiegel a new deal, believing he does have a role to play in the club’s future.
Unfortunately for Spiegel, he is stuck behind two exceptionally talented goalkeepers in Adrian and Randolph, and he could be waiting a very long time for his chance in the first-team.
Adrian is undoubtedly one of the best keepers in the Premier League - arguably in the top five - and Randolph has proven an able deputy for the Spaniard when playing.
They are guaranteed first- and second-choice options between the posts, and Spiegel may have to head out on loan again to ensure some first-team football for the foreseeable future.
