Steve Bruce admits that life at Hull City is difficult for Eldin Jakupovic

Eldin Jakupovic has played just 21 matches in over three years for Hull City.

Steve Bruce has told Sky Sports that Eldin Jakupovic’s role at Hull City is difficult, as he spends so much time on the sidelines.

Jakupovic has had to bide his time for first-team appearances this season, but he showed exactly what he could do in the FA Cup at the weekend.

The 31-year-old played a starring role as Hull picked up a 0-0 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Jakupovic made a string of wonderful saves in the contest, and Bruce says that he was delighted for the Bosnian-born stopper to receive some acclaim.

“He has waited long enough," Bruce said. "The form of Allan McGregor has been excellent too. I'm delighted for Eldin.

“It's never easy to be a number two but he works hard every day and I'm sure he will remember that one. He made some good saves and kept us in the cup.”

Jakupovic has been with Hull since 2012, but he only made 21 appearances in over three and a half year.

The Tigers sent him out on loan to Leyton Orient in 2014, but he has otherwise played a bench-warming role at the KC Stadium.

It seems unlikely that Jakupovic will be able to move up Bruce’s pecking order in the near future, too, as Allan McGregor is such a talented goalkeeper.

McGregor has impressed over a number of years for Hull, and he has a reputation as one of the best stoppers in the Championship.

The date of Hull’s replay against Arsenal is yet to be decided, but the winners of the tie will face Watford in the quarter finals.
