Report: Watford planning summer move for Stefan Stangl

Watford are reportedly keen on Austrian defender Stangl.

Watford are reportedly planning a summer move for Stefan Stangl, Laola1 reports.

The Austrian media outlet claim that Stangl is being scouted by the Hornets, ahead of the summer transfer window, when they will be making a move for him.

Stangl has enjoyed a strong season with Rapid Vienna in his homeland, scoring four goals and registering four assists in 31 games in all competitions.

Naturally a left-back, the 24-year-old can also play in left and central midfield, with his versatility and energy making him prize asset for Rapid.

He has been touted to win his first international call-ups for Austria this summer, when the country head to the European Championship in Paris.

Should he be named in the squad, he will join current Watford player Sebastian Prodl, the centre-back who signed for the Premier League side last summer.

The Hornets are on the look-out for a new left-back in the summer, with the position likely to cause problems come the end of this season.

Nathan Ake’s loan deal will end and he will return to Chelsea, whilst Jose Holebas has long been linked with an exit from Vicarage Road having not settled at the club since his arrival in the summer.
