Former Queens Park Rangers and Rangers midfielder Ray Wilkins suggested on the Matchday Live with Fletch & Sav show on BT Sport 2 on Saturday morning (February 20, broadcast from 10am) that Tottenham Hotspur should hand Mauricio Pochettino a new contract.
“As much as it’s important for the club to sign the players they already have on longer term contracts, it’s very important for Tottenham now to nail him (Pochettino) down because I think what he is doing there is remarkable,” said Wilkins.
Pochettino was appointed the Tottenham head coach in the summer of 2014 and has a contract until June 2019.
According to The London Evening Standard, both Chelsea and Manchester United have long-term interest in Pochettino.
It is not a surprise really, as the former Southampton manager has proved himself in the Premier League.
The question is whether Pochettino would want to leave Spurs for a bigger club like Chelsea or United.
At White Hart Lane, the 43-year-old has a squad in his own image and has built a team that can compete for years to come.
Would Pochettino want to leave all that and move to a club where he would have another rebuilding job?
