Raphael Spiegel discusses signing a new West Ham contract; names two players he enjoys working with

Raphael Spiegel has agreed a new contract with West Ham.

Speaking to the official West Ham website, Raphael Spiegel has discussed signing a new contract with the Hammers, having tied down his future for a further two years.

Spiegel said: “I am very happy to extend my contract at West Ham United and am excited about the move to the new Stadium. It is great to work with Adrian and Darren [Randolph]. They have great experience and you can always learn from them. It can only make me better. West Ham is a very good place to be at the moment and everyone can play to their best.”

Spiegel is currently turning out for the Under-21 side, and has been a frequent member of first-team squads this season. He has spent the campaign training with the senior squad as well, working with Adrian and Darren Randolph.

Spiegel is highly rated, but the 23-year-old Swiss keeper has had to wait for his chance with the Hammers having signed in 2012.

He has not yet played for the first-team, although he will be hoping that situation has changed by the time he gets to the end of his current contract - now extended to 2018.

At 23, he is still young for a goalkeeper, and it is clear that Spiegel has talent. His chance is surely not too far away, and it is just unfortunate that he is behind two keepers of the quality of Adrian and Randolph in Slaven Bilic’s pecking order.
