Paul Merson says Remi Garde should resign as Aston Villa manager

Villa Park Outside

Remi Garde has been unable to guide Aston Villa away from danger.

Paul Merson has told Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, which was broadcast on 22 February, that Remi Garde should resign as Aston Villa manager.

The Claret and Blues seem doomed, as they are currently eight points adrift of safety in the Premier League standings.

Villa lost their last match 6-0 against Liverpool, and Merson feels that the Midlands side’s current squad are no longer buying into Garde’s philosophy.

“Without a doubt [it’s a resigning issue],” he said. “I didn’t see any fight. It was shameful. Do something to show they care! Don’t just let Toure score. I thought the Villa players were going to jump on him when he scored.

“Honestly, it was embarrassing. It’s a big football club.

"As a manager, you would go. [After a defeat to] Brentford I went [from Walsall], after we lost 5-0. If the players aren’t playing for you, what’s the point?”

Garde has won just two Premier League matches since taking over from Tim Sherwood, and he has failed to spark Villa into life.

The Villans have been struggling for results all season and their players appeared resigned to their fate against Liverpool.

With frustrations growing at Villa Park, there are already doubts over whether Garde will stick with the club beyond the summer.

The French manager was not backed to make one signing in the January transfer window and that has made him question his future according to the Daily Mail.

Villa return to action at the weekend with a match against Stoke City, but only a remarkable turnaround will see them get out of trouble now.
