Luis Suarez speaks out, confident about Liverpool

Luis Suarez says he is confident Liverpool will get back into the Champions League in the near future.

Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez says he still keeps an eye on his old club and is confident they will soon get back into the Champions League.

Speaking to The Express, Suarez says he retains an affection for the side he joined in 2011 and played for until leaving for Barcelona in the summer of 2014.

He said: "I will always watch Liverpool and look for their results, they will always be a very special club for me. I would love to see them back in the Champions League.

"They have a new coach who is one of the most experienced in Europe, so I am sure they can be back there soon. It is where that special club belongs."

Suarez did not play in the Champions League for the Reds, helping them qualify for the 2014/15 competition, but left before he could play in it. Without him the team struggled, exiting in the group stage.

The Uruguayan international has been in phenomenal form for Barcelona this season, which will come as no surprise to anybody who saw him light up the Premier League. Already this season he has scored 41 goals in all competitions, and hopes to add to that tally in the Champions League against Barcelona this evening.

Liverpool currently sit in eighth place in the table, nine points off a Champions League qualifying spot, and their best chance of making it this season could be if they win the Europa League this season, and must see off Augsburg later this week at Anfield.
