The 20-year-old was delighted with the Newcastle training camp on social media.
Indeed, he says he had a great few days of training and was pleased to get some friendly-match game time.
Sterry also registered an assist for Newcastle and the experience will no doubt have benefited several of the club's youngsters in a similar position to him.
Had a great few days training away, getting some game time, getting the win and to top it off, grabbing an assist! #nufc— Jamie Sterry (@JamieSterry2) February 21, 2016
Sterry, of course, was the subject of praise from Newcastle's head coach during the La Manga trip.
Considering Newcastle's plight, Sterry may not receive too much first-team action in the near future but he is certainly another youngster to consider in the long run.
Then again, so bad have some of the Magpies' performances been this season, McClaren could do with an energetic 20-year-old instead of one of his lethargic senior strugglers.
But you can trust McClaren not to make a big call like that...
