West Ham secured a 5-1 win over Blackburn on Sunday in the FA Cup, and Ian Wright took to Twitter to send a message to the Rovers’ fans following a prediction he made when the Hammers defeated Liverpool.
Blackburn fans.I don't feel so clueless now after some of you saying I was out of order thinking West Ham were through after Liverpool— Ian Wright (@IanWright0) February 21, 2016
Wright claimed in the aftermath of West Ham overcoming Liverpool in the fourth round that they were assured progression through to the quarter finals, knowing that Blackburn were their opponents.
Blackburn fans did not take too kindly to that prediction, criticising Wright for writing the Championship side off, but it became apparent during the game that West Ham are a much better team than Rovers.
Although they went one goal down, from the moment they equalised just minutes later, it never seemed as if the Hammers would lose.
Dimitri Payet was in inspired form, and Emmanuel Emenike was exceptional in attack, with Slaven Bilic’s team dominating the performance.
Having traversed another round, Bilic and his team will be considering themselves realistic contenders for the FA Cup. They have one of the best teams in the competition, and on their day they can defeat anyone, meaning Bilic should be looking to lead the Hammers to silverware in the remaining months of the season.
