The Leeds United youngster continues to impress at that level.
In a recent interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United manager Steve Evans said he was keeping a very close eye on young duo Frank Mulhern and Eoghan Stokes with both players out of contract in the summer.
“Their training performances are now being monitored more closely than they have ever been,” Evans said.
Both players are impressing at under-21 level this season, and while Evans said scoring for the second-string was very different from doing it for the first-team, both teenagers can only play at the level they are given.
Evans’ words certainly appear to have had an impact on Stokes if his latest performance is anything to go by, with the 19-year-old scoring a brace in a 2-2 draw against Huddersfield Town’s youngsters on Monday afternoon.
Stokes scored his first with a powerful drive before equalising for a second time almost immediately after the Terriers retook the lead.
That gives Stokes four goals in his last three appearances at this level and Evans can ask for nothing more, at least on the pitch.
It is now time for the teenager to impress regularly in training because Leeds could do with all the goal-scorers they can get right now.
If he continues in this form, do not be surprised if he gets his Leeds debut from the bench with the season coming to a close.
