Ray Wilkins has told Sky Sports News, broadcast on February 22 at 11.15am, that Manchester City's players should do all they can to win Manuel Pellegrini a trophy this season.
Last month, City announced that Pellegrini's stay at the Etihad Stadium would come to an end in the summer after they agreed terms with Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola.
The decision to publicly announce the change so early divided opinion, but Wilkins feels that City's squad should continue to perform for the Chilean given the way that he has conducted himself since his arrival in 2013.
Despite exiting the FA Cup to Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, City can still win the treble providing that they defeat Liverpool in the League Cup final this weekend and Wilkins has said that he expects a big performance from Pellegrini's side.
Wilkins said: "I would like to think that the players would like to get him a trophy because he has looked after the players when they have been playing poorly.
"You don't often see him come out and slander the players through the media and I think that he deserves them to put themselves out to win him a trophy before he leaves
"I think that with a full squad of players, they will have a little too much for Liverpool on Sunday."
As well as their defeat to Chelsea, City have also lost ground in the Premier League title race after losing to rivals Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur in successive games.
They will attempt to gain a stranglehold of their Champions League tie with Dynamo Kiev when they make the long trip to Ukraine for Wednesday's first leg.
